The debate continues to focus on immigration and racism versus the elite. The blame game is in full force. It fails to recognise that it is a complex situation and we need to try to understand both sides. Inequality is certainly a key aspect of the consequences of neo-liberal democracy, but that really isn't a sexy topic and no one wants to focus on that sort of gloom.
The great author Charles Dickens was criticised by his peers during his lifetime and only much later has he been recognised for his efforts on poverty and inequality. History will judge us all.
Both sides, Brexiteers and Remainers want to immerse themselves only with those who share their views. It feels like we are stuck. A wonderful writing teacher has said when you're in that situation, write Stuck then keep going. What needs to change and what can we do?
I hope going forward we can try to find a way to deal with some of the issues Brexit has highlighted, both here and in the world. These issues were here before Brexit and they will continue unless we stop burying our head in the sand.
How is this affecting us? How do we treat people? What do we care about? How can we be truly happy and healthy as individuals, a country and world?
I am hopeful that these problems will improve eventually. Life is like a pendulum, swinging one way then the other. We are all doing the best we can and we all have problems, some more than others. Brexit division and opinion is full of labels of good and bad, but how about we stop this angry vitriolic win / us versus them attitude to find compassion, empathy for each other, open hearts and open minds.
