Oysters - Way Too Many Health Benefits

Oysters at London's Borough Market

Oysters are famously known as an aphrodisiac, but did you know about the crazy long list of health benefits if you eat them?

Here goes:

  1. They are a good source of protein.
  2. Also, they are particularly high in zinc which means quicker wound healing rates, a boosted immune system, facilitates growth and development and the maintenance of bodily function.
  3. They are good for heart health with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids.
  4. As well, oysters have an impressive source of iron which helps formation of red blood cells in the body and is the primary defense against anemia, also known as iron deficiency, which can lead to fatigue, cognitive malfunction, stomach disorders, and general muscle weakness.
  5. The high levels of calcium is important for bone health.
  6. Plus, they also have phosphorus, copper, selenium, vitamin C and vitamin E content, as well as various minerals that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

For those wanting to work on their summer bods, they are low in calories and fat too.

It makes me think we should all be eating more oysters!
