There's a Queen song - Crazy Little Thing Called Love. That intangible, all important concept has become big business. It's not just the greeting card industry and florists, but everything around us that feeds off this desire. We dress, diet, read, watch tv and it's all about love. There's reality tv, online dating and introductory services costing over £10000 which have all tapped into this little thing called love. Have we overcomplicated our lives? How was it that 50 years ago we didn't need them?
I was watching this show called Millionaire Matchmaker. Patti Stanger has a successful business and it's all around that all important thing of finding love. Sex and the City was about a woman trying to find love. The hit comedy Friends, had Ross and Rachel's will they won't they love affair to keep it going for many years. Some of the greatest books written - Gone with the Wind, Anne of Green Gables, Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice - they're all about love. Let's not forget the teenage phenomenon of Twilight.
Pubs and bars thrive on it - as it's the place to go to find love. We grow up with fairy tales which are about finding the one. Does it make us unrealistic? Is it just about finding someone you can put up with, especially when you are 75 years old and cranky?
So if you are thinking of a get rich quick scheme, think about love.

Wall Street Protesters
I was amused when I heard the story about the Wall Street Protesters. You have famous people protesting too - actors, actresses and other people who are paid ludicrous amounts of money. They would argue they are not hurting anyone, but their industry has always benefited from earning a vast amount of money, much more than you and I.
And you also have to consider how much more money Western countries have compared to developing nations. Should we all earn less so that we have a fairer society? Bankers, not that I am a fan, have a skill that allows them to earn more than the average person.. They make their employers alot of money and so can demand higher salaries and bonuses. That's the only reason they are kept on. Once they stop delivering, they are fired. What's the difference between IT geeks, lawyers, actors and bankers? Bankers are perceived to add less value. They are blamed for destroying the economy. We don't protest against the politicians, or the press, or the shareholders or anyone else who also profited from the financial services industry (lawyers, consultants, accountants and the list goes on). We have all made money out of the banks. When times were good, we didn't complain. They fueled our economy. Now, when times are bad, we point the finger and say we never asked for this.
In the UK, growth is being led by London, ie the banking sector. Do we want to bite the hand that feeds us?
What does protesting achieve? On government budget cuts, I completely understand the point of these actions. I don;t mind joining them. As for the wall street protesters, aren't we better off if they channel their energy into helping a charity or trying to create value through a small business or spending money to fuel our economy?

Dieting in October
There's something about Christmas approaching and having to see my mother that makes me think I need to diet. So I'm doing a mini-detox, I've cut out carbs and I'm exercising again.

I do or don't - The big question, should we get married?
Should we get married is the question on many young people's mind. It's not a simple question and it's one that many young people both in a relationship and single have to consider and weigh up. Today, marriage is no longer a given. Is is because of the changing views on religion, values, tradition and society's expectations? Is it because of the increase in divorces both of this generation and our parent's?

Does the internet make people happy?
Did you know that the internet can make people happy? You get a dopemeine hit when people interact with you and there are some with forum addiction. Some make new friends, can be themselves, find their passion, fall in love, discover answers and solve problems.

Portugese Tarts
If you have never tried a Portugese tart , you definitely should. I am thinking about making it this weekend. There is a shop down Nottinghill Way which is famous for them, but I've also noticed them in a Cafe Nero before.

Former Apple CEO and founder Steve Jobs dies
It was just over six weeks ago that I was writing about Steve Jobs resigning. Today I feel sad, not just because winter is coming, I'm overworked, the state of the world, the economic crisis or that Steve Jobs has died. I wonder today, whether I will be able to achieve great things. May be it's my generation, may be we are always filled with discontent, may be because Steve Jobs gave so much to his work and his payment was an early grave. May be I feel daunted that he achieved so much and the path ahead is steep and lonely.
