- Study your Receipts - not only to make sure you're not being overcharged but to analyse how you can save next time. What is your grocery bill made up of, how can you reduce it and did you need everything on there - this review process will help you the next time you're supermarket shopping.
- Downsize or buy in bulk - I don't need ten sausages, I only want one so I buy it at the deli for 35p instead of £1 for a pack that I don't want to eat. The family size packs of toilet paper are cheaper but always check because on special it might work out better to buy 2 packs of 4 than 1 pack of 9.
- Buy less snacks, junk food and pre-made food - fresh food such as meat, vegetables and fruit is much cheaper and better for you. If you are going to buy a few treats, see what's on sale rather than impulse buy (follow your head instead of your heart). Buy more fresh vegetables and less meat, that will also reduce your grocery bill.
- Plan your meals around the specials or what is in season - if wild Atlantic salmon is 50% off, then substitute that for whatever meat or fish you were planning to cook.
- Staple Foods - keep staple foods in your cupboard and freezer so that at the supermarket you always buy less than what you think you need. You'll know that you have back up staple food to count on if you run out. Generally we overbuy and throw food out.

Tips to Save Money on your Grocery Bill at the Supermarket
In the current economic climate, we are all looking at how to save money and one of our big bills is when we do our weekly supermarket shopping. My grocery bill is now 25 - 50% less than it used to be and I've identified what tips I can share:
