Why is Zumba so popular?

Zumba continues to gain in popularity, It came up in a conversation I had this week with someone. My friend Mandy doesn't go to the gym but she was very keen to try zumba. Another one of my friends, Wendy, has bought the DVDs.So why is zumba becoming so popular? Why is everyone talking about it?

Reliving Your Youth - The music is loud, and you dance like you are in a nightclub. It makes you feel like you are reliving your youth but without the skinny teenagers in short skirts to make you feel old.

Empowerment - Zumba makes you feel empowered, with fists in the air and hip shaking that makes you feel confident and strong.

Feel like Phoebe - Do you remember Phoebe from the tv show Friends? She had a funny way of running. Zumba gives you that feeling of freedom to move and just have fun.

Community - Zumba feels very communal. It's a shared experience, but unlike other fitness classes, there is a feeling of sisterhood. It draws on dances from different cultures (Latin, African, Indian, Russian) so it's inclusive and is about everyone taking part.

Make You Sweat - the warm up and intensive burst of 10 minute workouts make you sweat so you feel like you are losing weight. There is a constant mix of moves and it keeps it interesting. It's a big contrast to the repetition in other exercise classes.

2011 is the year of zumba. It is gaining momentum. Read more about zumba in Forget your personal trainer, try zumba - the fitness party fad.
