London v Paris - battle of the cultural meccas

London is a cultural magnet with opportunities and scope for artists and creative types. I met a Parisian photographer today. Imagine my surprise when she said 'London is much better than Paris.'

London has a great deal to offer, and I am tremendously proud of all its history and culture. However, Paris always seemed to have a certain flamboyance and flair, but perhaps it has lost its lustre, perhaps the royal pomp and continued British success in fashion trumps it now.

I've visited the AAB Art Fair in Paris, explored the galleries in St Germain and strolled the boulevards. It is a city rich in its architecture and creativity.

London 's Shoreditch area is bursting with bohemian buzz and there is no shortage of exhibitions in the many galleries dotted around the city. The West End remains strong and we have some outstanding performances with both local and international talent on the stage.

Dozens of patisseries and at least half a dozen gelato stores are crammed into Covent Garden. French masters - Lauduree and Pierre Herme are now available on this side of the channel. Do we need to go to France still. Even our weather has improved lately.

Whilst the Eurozone crisis continues, London continues to draw all sorts of people to it. Many come to learn English and start off in hospitality. They add to the cultural richness. They raise the standard of our cuisine and entertainment, and add to our rich diversity and quality in the arts. Is this the dawn of a new era for England? I can't help but wonder whether London may be surpassing Paris as a cultural mecca.
