How to Buy the Perfect Gift

Do you want the perfect gift for friends, parents, lovers and kids? The key is to come up with gifts that are thoughtful and original. What are they passionate about? What gets them excited?

Here are some options:
  • Spoil them - those items they don't think to buy for themselves - luxury beauty products from stores like L'occitane, or jewelry stores, Tiffany's and Links. You can pick up some cool stuff from gadget stores like Modelzone. A holiday - because who doesn't love them!
  • Warm and loving - bits and pieces to make them feel warm and loved like blankets, socks and pyjamas.
  • Size matters - Another great idea is fill a big box full of small individually wrapped gifts - socks, t-shirts, books, magazines, chocolate, mugs, games and perfume. The more there is the better. It's lots of fun for them to unwrap, much like a care box.
  • Time is money - Book a massage / dance / language class to do together. Buy tickets for the theatre and plan a day around it - ice-skating, afternoon tea, a tourist attraction, a day-trip. It's the experiences you share that bring you closer together.
  • $$ - When in doubt, you can throw money at a gift. Nothing says I love you like spending money on that special someone. If you don't know - snoop! Open drawers to see what products they use, check credit card statements to find out which shops they go to. Concert tickets to their favourite artist / event is a good one.
Oprah has a top picks which can give you some ideas too. The fabulous Miss O - always a great resource! Her guide to Christmas giving is on Oprah's Gifts That Lift Your Heart

They say that cards are a thing of the past, but a well chosen card for someone with words of love and thanks can be a lovely finishing touch to your gift.

It takes time, you need to think about it. And the thing is that when you buy the right gift, it shows you care.

Good luck - may the force be with you.
